DBT Group for Teens in Raleigh, NC
The DBT Group for Teens at Your Journey Through is a dialectical behavior therapy skills group for teens in high school who struggle with intense emotions, impulsive behavior, and interpersonal challenges.
If your teen is in high school and you want in-person support, you’re in the right place. Tell us a little about your family using the interest form below, and we'll take it from there.
Why DBT for Teens Works
Maybe it's a 14-year-old who slams a door and then cries about it an hour later. Maybe it's a 16-year-old who's fine at school and falls apart the second she gets home. The feelings are real, and they're big, and most teens haven't been handed anything practical to do with them yet.
DBT is a skills-based approach. Instead of only talking about what went wrong, teens learn and practice concrete coping skills they can actually use on a Tuesday afternoon.
Waiting rarely makes this easier. The longer a teen leans on the only strategies they know, whether that's shutting down, lashing out, or avoiding, the more worn-in those patterns get. A skills group can interrupt that early, while your teen is still building the habits they'll carry into adulthood.
Why DBT for Teens Works
Teens join us for all kinds of reasons: anxiety, low mood, big emotions after something hard, struggles around food and body image, and patterns that have started to worry the people who love them.
DBT was originally developed for adults, and it's since been adapted for teens facing a much wider range of struggles. We don't lead with labels in the room. Your teen isn't a diagnosis to us; they're a person learning how to handle hard days at school, at home, and in their relationships.
If a teen needs more support than a skills group can offer on its own, we'll say so honestly and help you figure out the next step.
Why Raleigh Families Choose Our Adolescent DBT Group
Our team is made up of licensed and associate-licensed therapists who work with teens and families. That means the room is led by someone who genuinely likes this age group and speaks their language. We welcome sweatpants, snacks, and real language in session. We want your teen to show up as themselves.

The curriculum follows the four core skills modules of dialectical behavior therapy, taught in plain language and practiced alongside other group members.
As the University of Washington's Behavioral Research and Therapy Clinics, where DBT was developed, explains, DBT includes four behavioral skills modules with two acceptance-oriented skills (mindfulness and distress tolerance) and two change-oriented skills (emotion regulation and interpersonal effectiveness).
What Teens Learn in Our DBT Skills Group
Noticing what's happening inside before reacting to it.
Staying with the present moment instead of spiraling about next week.
Mindfulness
Getting through a hard moment without doing something that makes tomorrow worse.
Practical tools for impulsive urges in the moment they show up.
Distress Tolerance
Naming a feeling accurately, which is harder and more useful than it sounds.
Catching intense emotions early, before they take over the whole evening.
Emotion Regulation
Asking for what you need and saying no without guilt.
Handling conflict with parents, teachers, and friends without burning the relationship down.
Interpersonal Effectiveness
Teen Anxiety Group Raleigh: How DBT Skills Help Anxious Teens
A lot of the teens who join us are, at heart, anxious. That shows up as social anxiety, academic pressure, body image issues, self-doubt that never quiets down, and transitions that feel enormous from the inside.
This group gives high school teens an inviting, relatable space to manage anxiety in a developmentally appropriate way, alongside peers who get it, led by therapists who specialize in working with teens.
The skills map onto anxiety directly. Distress tolerance is what helps a teen get through test panic or a first day somewhere new. Interpersonal effectiveness is what makes speaking up in a group chat or a classroom feel survivable. Mindfulness can interrupt a spiral of self-doubt before it swallows the whole afternoon.
