Signs You Might Benefit From Individual Therapy
You might consider starting individual therapy if:
✔ You feel overwhelmed, anxious, or persistently sad
✔ Your relationships feel disconnected, lack mutual support, or leave you feeling emotionally drained
✔ You’ve experienced a major life change or loss
✔ You’re struggling with self-esteem, confidence, or perfectionism
✔ You want to understand yourself more deeply or explore your identity
✔ You have trouble setting boundaries or saying no
✔ You’re noticing unhealthy patterns but aren’t sure how to change them
✔ You feel “stuck” in life or uncertain about the future
✔ You are going through life transitions (starting college, graduating high school, new parent, retiring, etc.)
✔ You want to better manage ADHD, OCD, or other mental health diagnoses
Many people begin individual therapy to work through a specific concern. Contrary to popular belief, therapy isn't solely reserved for severe mental health issues. It can be for individuals who want a supportive space to reflect, grow, and improve their well-being. There’s no wrong reason to start therapy. Often, people are surprised by how much they gain — not just symptom relief, but greater self-awareness, emotional resilience, and life satisfaction.
What to Expect From Your First Session
Starting therapy is a meaningful and intentional step toward caring for your mental and emotional health. In a society that often values independence, choosing to seek support reflects strength and a deep commitment to your well-being. Individual therapy provides a private, supportive space where you can safely explore your thoughts, feelings, and experiences.
It’s completely natural to feel a mix of emotions—curiosity, hope, nervousness—as you consider your first session. You might worry about being judged, feel unsure about what to expect, or be concerned about opening up. These reactions are common and valid. You're not alone in feeling this way, and we're here to walk with you every step of the way. Meet with us either in-person or virtually where we’ll explore underlying obstacles, provide coping skills, create a plan that feels doable for you, and help you start living a life that feels good.
The first session of individual therapy is focused on building trust and understanding your goals. Here’s what typically happens:
Introductions and Orientation: Your therapist will explain confidentiality and the structure of therapy.
Your Story: You’ll be invited to share what brought you in and what you hope to work on.
Goal-Setting: Together, you’ll outline your therapy goals and talk about what success might look like.
Next Steps: Your therapist may offer initial observations or coping strategies and will explain what future sessions will involve
The pace is entirely up to you. Some people want to jump right into deep issues, while others prefer to ease in slowly. Both are valid. Our therapists meet you where you are — no pressure, no judgment.
How Individual Therapy Can Support Your Growth
At its core, individual therapy is about connection — connection to yourself, your goals, your emotions, and your strengths. It’s a dedicated time weekly/biweekly to reflect on your life, process difficult emotions, and build habits that support your mental health.
Improve communication and relationships
Increase emotional regulation and resilience
Heal from past trauma or loss
Find clarity during life transitions
Navigate identity and personal values
Build confidence and self-compassion
Learn healthy boundaries and coping strategies
This isn’t just about getting through the hard things in life –it’s about building a life that feels meaningful and aligned.

This really depends on your needs. Every client’s circumstances are different. Some clients come in looking for solution-based therapy taking only a few sessions, and others come in seeking a long-term supportive relationship. We will discuss the frequency of visits that best fits your needs. In general, we recommend beginning with weekly visits for the first month to build momentum and then evaluating progress and adjusting as we go.

Sessions are typically around 50 minutes.

Our therapists draw from a wide range of approaches based on your goals and preferences. This may include:
Trauma Therapy: This approach includes somatic and nervous system regulation techniques to process trauma through bodily awareness and restore balance to the nervous system, facilitating healing and resilience.
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT): Enables individuals to identify and change negative thought patterns and behaviors that contribute to emotional distress.
EMDR Therapy: Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) therapy is an evidence-based approach that helps individuals process and integrate distressing memories with a strong focus on healing trauma.
Mindfulness-based practices
Play Therapy for Children: Play therapy for children uses creative and expressive techniques to help them communicate and process their emotions. When combined with parent-child psychotherapy, it addresses both individual and relational aspects of a child’s well-being, fostering healthier parent-child interactions and emotional development.

The cost per 50-minute session ranges between $150-180 depending on which therapist you are working with.
We also have Clinical Mental Health Interns who are able to see clients at a much lower rate.
We accept cash, check, all major credit cards, HSA, and FSA cards.
Out of respect for client confidentiality, and a few other reasons that you can read about here, we have chosen not to accept insurance directly. However, we can provide a “super-bill” statement for you to submit to your insurance company in effort to receive out-of-network provider reimbursement (typically 60-80% of the session cost, depending on your plan). We are also partnered with a billing concierge service who can do all the work for you. Many of our clients utilize this benefit to access affordable therapy.

Not every therapeutic relationship is the right match — and that’s okay. Our approach is collaborative, flexible, and focused on what works best for you. If you’ve had a less-than-great experience in the past, we encourage you to give it another try. A different therapist or approach can make all the difference.

Absolutely. Life is complex, and it’s common for multiple concerns to be interconnected. Whether you’re dealing with anxiety, navigating a relationship, or managing a major life transition, your therapist will help you prioritize and explore the themes that matter most to you.
-
Yes. What you share in therapy stays between you and your therapist, with a few legal exceptions related to safety. Our practice is fully HIPAA-compliant, meaning your personal health information is protected in accordance with federal privacy standards.
