CHILD AND PARENTING IN RALEIGH, NC

Hello! I’m Alexis, a Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor who works with children (as young as 5), teens, and their parents. I specialize in helping kids with ADHD and anxiety learn to thrive, while supporting parents in creating calmer, more connected homes.

Though I’m not a North Carolina native, you’ll often find me out and about in the Triangle - volunteering with animals, joining community clean-ups, birding, or exploring local yoga studios.I offer both virtual and in-person therapy in Raleigh, NC.

Some fun facts about me are that I married my high school sweetheart and I am very much a cat person. In my spare time, I like to read, bake, and try out new restaurants.

COUNSELING APPROACH

Individualized and Collaborative Care

I begin every case with an intake to assess the needs of the child and their parents. From there, we create a tailored plan based on what will best support growth and progress. In some situations, meaningful change comes primarily through parent work - in others, I incorporate both child sessions and parent collaboration. Together, we’ll decide what’s most effective for your family.

Play-Based and Cognitive Approaches

For children under 12, I often utilize Child-Centered Play Therapy, offering space for kids to explore their inner worlds through non-directive play. For older children and specific anxiety and OCD concerns, I draw from Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP), and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) to reduce anxiety reactions and strengthen coping skills.

Parent Work and SPACE Approach

When a child’s anxiety or OCD is the main concern, I often work with parents through Supportive Parenting for Anxious Childhood Emotions (SPACE) β€” a structured, evidence-based approach focused on helping parents make supportive changes that lead to lasting progress. I also use psychoeducation to help parents of children with ADHD increase cooperation and connection through neuro-affirming strategies.
